Zonocerus Stål, 1873
This genus of short-horned grasshoppers contains 2 species which are found in sub-Saharan Africa. Both species are considered crop pests, but Zonocerus variegatus is the most damaging one, especially on cassava. Zonocerus species acquire pyrrolizidine alkaloids from some of their food plants which is believed to help them in repelling possible predators.
