Urticaceae (weeds) - (nettle family)

The family includes around 1,300 species of mainly herbaceous plants and is best known for the stinging hairs of many members. Some are cultivated like ramie (Boehmeria) while others are important agricultural weeds, including stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) and burning nettle (U. urens). These are common in Europe, North America and Asia and affect crops like vegetables or grapevine.
