[Determination of sequential sampling plan of the citrus red mite Panonychus citri (McGregor) (Acarina: Tetranychidae) for Washington and Valencia orange cultivars]
Turkish Journal of Entomology 28 (1), 3-14
Abstract: This study was carried out between 1998-1999 in unsprayed orange cultivars Washington and Valencia located in Adana. Spatial distribution pattern of preadult and adult stages of the citrus red mite Panonychus citri (McGregor) were determined and fixed precision sequential sampling plan were developed for the cultivars. The infestation rate and variation coefficient were used to determine sample unit of P. citri. Spatial distribution was determined by Taylor power law. Data were collected from four regions of the canopy divided as upper-outside, upper-inside, bottom-outside and bottom-inside. The adequate sampling unit of P. citri was the outsides of the canopy which had a low variation coefficient and high infestation rate. Considering easy sampling and lesser time consuming, the best sampling unit of the citrus red mite was determined as the bottom-outside region of the canopy. Sample size requirements increased when level of coefficient of variations are increased.
