Penetration, development, and reproduction of Meloidogyne paranaensis in three Coffea arabica genotypes
Tropical Plant Pathology 46 (5), 528-535
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the development and reproduction of Meloidogyne paranaensis in three Arabic coffee genotypes, IPR 106, resistant; Mundo Novo IAC 376-4, susceptible; and IAPAR 88480-8-4, with intermediate levels of resistance. To evaluate the penetration and the development of M. paranaensis in the coffee genotypes, plants were inoculated with 3000 eggs, and evaluations were performed at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 days after inoculation (DAI). To evaluate the nematode multiplication, 1000 eggs were inoculated, and the evaluations were performed at 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, and 240 days after inoculation (DAI), when the reproduction factor (RF) and the number of nematodes per gram of roots were obtained. We can conclude that IAPAR 88480-8-4, despite the delay caused in the development of the nematode, did not show the intermediate level of resistance, as previously reported, and Mundo Novo and IPR 106 behavior as susceptible and resistant genotypes. The adjustment of the behavior of the variable RF showed that, only after 120 DAI, RF values were high, suggesting that the evaluations should be performed between 120 and 180 DAI, to obtain more consistent results.
