Torymidae (plant pests)
The chalcid wasps in the family Torymidae are mainly parasitoids. However, some species are phytophagous. For example several attack the seeds and cones of trees, like those of the genus Megastigmus which infest conifer cones. The family contains around 1,000 species, often with a metallic colour and females with a long ovipositor, sometimes longer than the abdomen.
