Megastigmus Dalman, 1820
This is a large genus with over 100 species of chalcid wasps. Megastigmus species have adapted to two different feeding environments. Some infest conifer cones, seeds from trees like eucalypts or nuts. Several of these are considered important pests. Other species are inquilines in galls where they feed on plant tissue and compete with the gall-inducing insect species.
