Tobacco rattle virus (TRV)

Among other diseases, the virus causes the corky ringspot or spraing disease of potato. The symptoms include brown streaks in the tubers. It is common in Europe and North America and is transmitted by nematodes (e.g. Paratrichodorus pachydermus and Paratrichodorus anemones).

The genome consists of 2 positive-sense, single stranded RNAs, each encapsidated separately into a rod-shaped particle. RNA1 contains about 6800 nt and RNA2 between 1900 to 3900 nt depending on the isolate.
