Tipula Linnaeus, 1758

This is a common genus of crane flies with more than 1,000 species. The larvae of some species are root-feeding crop pests, like the common cranefly, Tipula oleracea, or the marsh cranefly, Tipula paludosa. Taxonomically, the genus is characterized by 2 long anal veins on the wings, an absence of ocelli and usually short antennae.
