Assigned virus:
• maize stripe virus (MSpV) - synonym: maize chlorotic stripe virus
The maize stripe virus causes a wide-spread disease of maize in tropical regions. It is transmitted by the corn delphacid, Peregrinus maidis, in a persistent-propagative manner. The genome consists of five segments of either negative or ambisense ssRNA with a total estimated size of ≈ 18 kb (RNA1- 8.8 kb, RNA2- 3.4 kb, RNA3- 2.3 kb, RNA4- 2.2 kb and RNA5- 1.3 kb). RNA3 contains ORFs for the coat protein and the non-structual protein 3 (NS3).
