Template:CategoryMembers2a

This template has the same function as Template:CategoryMembers2. However, it uses a different system. It checks, if any members are directly under the category given as parameter. If not, it lists the next higher category instead of the member name. E.g. for the call

{{CategoryMembers2a|Begomovirus (genus)}}

it finds that "Abutilon mosaic virus" is directly under the "Category:Begomovirus (genus)", therefore this species is listed. However, it finds that "Cotton leaf curl Gezira virus" is under "Category:Cotton leaf curl virus", a subcategory of "Category:Begomovirus (genus)". Therefore, "Cotton leaf curl virus" is listed insted, but not as a category, but as a plain link.

The template is useful for listing the species of virus genera where Template:CategoryMembers2 does not work. However, it does not list categories which have no members.
