Tecoma stans (weed) (L.) Juss. ex Kunth - (yellow trumpet-flower, yellow bells)
This plant is native to Central America, southern North America and parts of South America. It has been widely planted as an ornamental in other tropical regions and has become invasive in a number of areas. For example it is widely distributed in grasslands of southern Africa, where it suppresses native vegetation and reduces grazing areas for domestic or wild animals. Several possible biological control agents have been studied.
Tecoma stans is an evergreen shrub or small tree, growing to a height of up to 4 m. The leaves have sharp teeth on the margins and the flowers are bright yellow and trumpet-shaped.
