Taphrina Fr. 1815

The genus contains plant pathogenic fungi which cause galls, leaf curls and witches’ broom diseases. Their life cycle includes a yeast-like, saprobic state which multiplies by budding. The filamentous, plant pathogenic state produces a layer of asci on the infected plants, but no fruiting bodies.
