Synanthedon exitiosa Say - (peachtree borer)

This clearwing moth is a pest of peach and other Prunus species in North America. The female lays eggs on the bark of the host tree and the young larvae bore into the bark and develop under the bark of the lower trunk and the roots. Young trees can be girdled. The larvae overwinter in the tree and in warmer areas the whole life cycle can be completed in about a year. The adult moths are blueish-black, with a yellow or whitish band around the middle of the abdomen. The wingspan is around 30-35 mm.
