Stratiomyidae (crop pests)
This family of flies contains 2,000 to 3,000 species. Most adults feed on pollen and nectar while the larvae are scavengers. However, the larvae of Inopus rubriceps damage sugarcane roots in Australia. The adults are often black, with white, yellow or green markings or have a metallic colouration.
For beneficial competitors and predators of pest insects see the Stratiomyidae (competitors/predators).
