Stomoxys Geoffroy, 1762

The genus includes about 20 species of parasitic and blood sucking flies. They are important pests of cattle and can also bite humans and domestic pets. The species resemble house flies, but have a sclerotized proboscis. The adults are 7-8 mm long and have 4 darker, longitudinal stripes on the pronotum.

Type species: Stomoxys calcitrans.
