Stictococcus vayssierei Richard, 1971 - (cassava root scale, African root and tuber scale)

This soft scale infests cassava roots in western Africa. Other plants may also been attacked. Although it has been recorded from cassava for many years, it has mainly become a pest starting in the late 1970s. For example surveys in Cameroon reported around 12% infestation in 1990 and nearly 90% in 1994. In particular, stressed plants are infested and young plants may be killed.
