The fungus causes root diseases on onions, maize and some other crops. It is soil-borne and in the absence of a host can persist as conidia, pycnidia as well as in plant debris. Infected roots usually have a characteristic pink colour. The above-ground parts of the plants show chlorosis, wilting and dieback.
