Abstract: This work presents the results of two-year study, dealing with the seasonal abundance of the 35 sandflies species of the genus Lutzomyia and Brumptomyia. A total of 13 species were found in the rainy season, 9 in the dry one and 13 species occurred in both stations. The monthly variation in the number of species was observed in the rainy season, with the lowest number of species (3) found from January to March and the highest (17) in May. In all the months in the dry season, the variation in the monthly frequency of the species was lower. The smallest concentration of species was found in August (5) and the largest in October (12). The sand flies were present all year round, but the individuals frequency was higher in the dry season (91,8%) than in the rainy season (8,2%): The peak of captured sandflies was observed in October, when there was an "explosion" of individuals attracted to the traps. The abrupt increase in the frequency of the species in October, where 86,9% of the sand flies encountered in the year were captured, reflected in the abundance of three species: L. whitmani, L. migonei and L. serrana.
