Rattus losea (Swinhoe, 1871) - (lesser rice field rat)
This species of rat is found in some parts of South-East Asia (see distribution map). It can be quite abundant in some areas and is then considered to be significant pest in rice fields. It can be also a common host of Leptotrombidium species and then poses a risk for scrub typhus infections to humans.
R. losea is a medium-sized rat with small ears, a soft fur on the back and a relatively short tail with fine ribs. The colour is mostly grayish brown.
