Raphanus (weed) L.

The genus Raphanus includes cultivated radish (Raphanus sativus) plus some related species like wild radish (Raphanus raphanistrum), a widely distributed and important agricultural weed of crops like cereals, soybean, potatoes and vegetables.

In this genus, the structure of the fruits is characteristic. It consists of a lower part which contains no seeds and an upper part with the seeds. Only the upper part with the seeds drops off without splitting open, leaving the lower part attached to the plant.
