Abstract: Pierce’s disease is caused by the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa, more specifically by the subspecies, X. fastidiosa subsp. fastidiosa and X. fastidiosa subsp. piercei. The latter form also infects alfalfa, almond and maple. This article reviews the disease with emphasis on the research findings of the last 10 years.
