Psittacula krameri (Scopoli 1769) - (rose-ringed parakeet)
The rose-ringed parakeet (also ring-necked parakeet) is native to india, surrounding countries and in a strip across Sahelian Africa. It has become established outside its native range in Europe, other parts of the Mediterranean region and southern Africa (mainly by pets escaping or being released).
Apart from competing with native birds it has been also reported as an agricultural pest, damaging crops like sunflowers. Such crop fields may be attacked by flocks of hundreds of parakeets (e.g. Schäckermann et al. 2014).
