Pseudococcus calceolariae (Maskell, 1879) - (citrophilous mealybug)

This mealybug species is widely distributed and has been introduced into several countries and regions. Like other mealybugs, it disperses through the air as first instar larvae (crawlers). Long distance spread is mainly through infested plant material. It is polyphagous and can be an important pest on various vegetable and fruit crops like citrus, grapevine or apple. The females are marked with characteristic rows of dark spots. The hemolymph is reddish.
