Pseudaulacaspis pentagona (Targioni-Tozzetti, 1866) - (white peach scale)
This species of scale insect is extremely invasive and highly polyphagous. It is native to eastern Asia, but has now been recorded in more than 100 countries. For example, it has invaded countries and islands in Europe, Africa, the Americas (first record in Florida in 1902), and the Pacific (first record in Hawaii in 1997).
The host plants include fruit and nut trees like peach, apricot, pear, almond and walnut, as well as other crops such as mulberry, currant or bean. Infestations might start at the roots, spreading up the plant and forming dense aggregates. Apart from direct damage, the scale causes quarantine problems during the export of fruits.
