Pratylenchus goodeyi Sher & Allen, 1953 (banana lesion nematode)

This root lesion nematode has a wide-spread distribution in tropical and subtropical countries. In Africa, it is mainly found at higher altitudes. It infests bananas, the false banana or enset (Ensete ventricosum) and has been also reported from other crops. While it is associated with root lesions, the damage to banana plants has in general been reported to be low compared to that caused by Radopholus similis, the main nematode pest of bananas (e.g. see Gaidashova et al., 2010).
