Polistes (predators) Latreille, 1802
The genus Polistes contains more than 200 species of paper wasps. They prey on other insects and a number of species are considered to be beneficial predators of agricultural or forest pests, although they are also sometimes considered to be pests, especially the invasive species. An example of a mainly beneficial species is Polistes dominula which is found in Europe and North America (introduced) and preys on various pest Lepidoptera larvae.
