Poecilus cupreus (predator) (Linnaeus 1758)

This species is a common ground beetle in agricultural areas of Europe. It feeds on aphids and various other arthropods, also on slugs (Oberholzer & Frank, 2003) or weed seeds. The larvae live in the ground and feed mostly on soil living arthropods like beetle eggs or larvae. The adult beetles rarely fly, but climb plants.

Adult beetles are around 10-12 mm long, black with a metallic colouration, varying from greenish or bluish to copper coloured.

Pterostichus cupreus
