Plasmopara halstedii mycoviruses (antagonist) (PhV)
Several viruses have been found in Europe and North America infecting Plasmopara halstedii, an oomycete causing sunflower downy mildew. They cause hypovirulence in the oomycete. For example, a virus with isometric particles and a diameter of 23-26 nm and 4 species of double-stranded RNA has been described from North America (Gulya et al., 1992). In another report (Heller-Dohmen, 2011) a virus was described from P. halstedii in Europe, with two single-stranded RNAs and belonging to the family Nodaviridae.
