First report of brown rot of apple caused by Monilinia fructicola in Germany
Plant Disease 95 (6), 772-772
Abstract: During 2010, apples (Malus domestica) grown in Germany were observed with symptoms of brown decay that had spread throughout the fruits. The fruit surface had tan to white zones of sporulation. The fungus Monilinia fructicola was isolated from the diseased fruits. The identification was based on morphological characteristics and ITS sequence analysis. Pathogenicity of the isolates was demonstrated by inoculation and re-isolation.
