Combined resistance to Potato leafroll virus (PLRV) and Colorado potato beetle (CPB) in transgenic Russet Burbank potato
Phytopathology 86 (11 suppl.), S56-S56
Abstract: Russet Burbank potato has been genetically improved for resistance to PLRV infection and feeding damage by CPB. Transgenic potato plants contain the full length replicase gene from a PLRV field isolate and the crylllA gene from Bacillus thuringiensis. In 1994, over 600 lines were field screened in multiple locations for resistance to PLRV infection, cryIIIA gene expression levels and agronomics. Over 300 lines showed 10% or less PLRV foliar symptoms, of these lines 140 had Btt levels >10ppm. Forty of these lines were selected for field evaluation in 1995 based on good agronomic type. In 1996, 7 lines will be in replicated agronomics trials and planted for seed increase.
