Phylloxera notabilis Pergande, 1904 - (pecan leaf phylloxera)

This aphid is one of 4 phylloxera species infesting pecan trees in North America. It forms galls on the leaves that can result in premature leaf drop during heavy infestations. The juvenile growth of pecan seedlings can be affected during outbreaks.

P. notabilis has a similar biology and distribution as Phylloxera devastatrix but is regarded as slightly less damaging because only the leaves are infested. The page on P. devastatrix provides details on the complex life cycle of these phylloxera species.
