Phyllonorycter ringoniella (Matsumura, 1931) - (Asiatic apple leafminer)
This species is found in eastern Asia. It mines the leaves of apple and some other fruit trees like pear, peach, cherry, or plum. Various outbreaks have been reported from China and Japan, often as a result of insecticide sprays killing natural enemies. Heavy infestations can lead to premature defoliation and reduced yield. The mines are formed on the underside of the leaves and the larvae pupate inside the mines. There may be 4-6 generations per year.
