Pheidole obscurithorax Naves, 1985
This ant is native to Argentina, Paraguay and other parts of South America. It has been recorded from south-eastern parts of North America since the 1950s and is spreading in this region (Wetterer et al., 2015). The ant is omnivorous and has been described as an aggressive predator and scavenger. The diet includes arthropods, but various other species. For example, it has been observed attacking newly hatched chicks (Hill, 2006).
