Phaedon cochleariae (Fabricius, 1792) - (mustard leaf beetle)
This beetle is found in Europe and Asia. Adult beetles and larvae feed on the leaves of different Brassica species and other cruciferous plants like horseradish (Armoracia rusticana) or radish (Raphanus raphanistrum). Outbreaks might cause defoliation.
There are typically 2 generations per year in spring and in summer. Pupation takes place in the soil and adults are the overwintering stage. The beetle is about 4 mm long and shiny dark blue. The larvae are brownish with a black head.
