Periplaneta americana (Linnaeus, 1758) - (American cockroach)

The species might have originated in Africa, but now has a world-wide distribution and is an important pest of houses and food stores, especially in tropical and semi-tropical regions. Since it has developed resistance to all major insecticides, it is difficult to control once it has invaded a building.
