Peanut clump virus (PCV)

This virus is the type species of the genus Pecluvirus and causes the peanut clump disease of groundnuts in western Africa. Infected plants are stunted and become clumps of short erect shoots that do not spread on the grounds like healthy plants. In the field, the disease appears in patches. Gramineous plants like cereals or sugarcane can also become infected. The virus is transmitted by the soil-borne slime mold Polymyxa graminis which penetrates the roots (Dieryck et al., 2011). Transmission by seeds has been also reported.
