Paulowniaceae - Paulownia tomentosa (weed) Steud. - (princess tree)
The family Paulowniaceae includes around 20 species of trees which are found mainly in eastern Asia. The princess tree, Paulownia tomentosa, is a fast growing tree native to eastern Asia. It has been introduced as a timber tree or as an ornamental into Europe, North America and other regions in the 19 century.
In several areas, e.g. those with milder climate, it has escaped cultivation and has become invasive, competing with native vegetation. For example, forests in south-eastern North America may be invaded by this species, which can reach densities of 100 to 300 stems/ha. The tree can reach a height of 20-30 m.
