Parlatoria ziziphi (Lucas, 1853) - (black parlatoria)

This armored scale is widely distributed in subtropical and tropical regions and a pest of citrus. It is believed to be native to eastern Asia. In some areas like the Mediterranean region, it is regarded as a major citrus pest, infesting both the leaves and the fruits.

There are 3-5 overlapping generations per year. The female scale grows to a size of 1-1.5 mm. The scale cover is shiny-black or dark brown, broad and ellipsoid.
