Palpita vitrealis (Hübner, 1796) - (jasmine moth)

This moth is native to the Mediterranean and neighbouring regions, but has spread to several other regions like eastern Asia, Australia, southern Africa and the Americas. It attacks olive and various other trees.

The caterpillars feed on the young leaves and buds. In the 2nd generation they can also attack the developing olives. Young trees in nurseries suffer the most damage, while damage to older trees is often economically insignificant. There are 2-5 generations per year with the larvae overwintering.
