Ovatus crataegarius (Walker, 1850) - (mint aphid)

This aphid is widely distributed and holocyclic, with the primary (winter) host being mainly hawthorn or apple. It migrates to mint in the summer where it propagates asexually. Winged adults are formed in autumn which again migrate to hawthorn or apple.

Apart from mint, apple and hawthorn, it might also feed on other plants. On mint, high densities can cause damage and produce excessive honeydew. In addition, it can transmit plant viruses (Chatzivassiliou, 2016 and Tzanetakis et al.,2007).
