Oryctes elegans Prell, 1914 - (date palm fruit stalk borer)
This rhinoceros beetle is a pest of date palms and is found in the Near East. The adults bore into and breed in the stalks of the fruit bunches as well as the petioles of the fronds, causing them to break off. Significant losses can result from these attacks. O. elegans can be confused with Oryctes agamemnon.
