Source: Wikimedia Commons

The species belonging to this family often have large sizes and elaborate horns on the head and pronotum. Some of the largest beetles belong to this family. The colour is usually dark brown to black. They are robust insects with a thick cuticle and a long life cycle (often several years). The larval stages typically develop in organic matter or feed on roots.
