Orthotospovirus tomatanuli
Assigned virus:
• tomato yellow ring virus (TYRV)
The tomato yellow ring virus was initially described as 'tomato fruit yellow ring virus' from tomatoes in Iran which showed bright yellow ring patterns on the fruits (Winter et al., 2006). Later, a virus named 'tomato yellow fruit ring virus' (TYFRV) was described and several studies showed subsequently that the isolates of TYRV and TYFRV were members of the same virus, e.g. see Golnaraghi et al. (2018).
TYRV has been also reported from Europe and Africa and infects a variety of plants. For example, other solanaceous crops like potatoes and green pepper, where it causes chlorotic and necrotic leaf spots as well as leaf and stem necrosis. Further, leguminous plants like soybean, groundnuts and ornamentals can become infected.
