Oomycota (entomopathogens)
The Oomycota are a group of fungal-like organisms, actually unrelated to the true fungi. They are characterized by the formation of thick-walled sexual oospores and their close association with water. Many species are destructive plant pathogens. However, a few species are pathogenic to mosquito larvae and have been studied as possible biological control agents against mosquitoes.
