Saissetia oleae (Olivier, 1791) - (black scale)

This soft scale is a serious pest of olive, citrus, apricots and other crops, feeding on leaves and twigs. The damage caused includes injury to the trees, blocking sunlight through the appearance of sooty moulds on the excretions of the scale, as well as a reduced value of the fruits from affected trees.
