Oleavirus - Olive latent virus 2 (OLV-2)
The virus genus Oleavirus currently includes only the type species, Olive latent virus 2 (OLV-2). That virus is found in the Mediterranean region where it infects olive trees, but has been also reported from castor beans (Ricinus communis). Infected olive trees are symptomless, but on castor beans chlorotic mosaic and mottling symptoms have been described. There is little information on mechanisms of transmission of this virus, but mechanical and grafting are cited.
This virus forms several types of particles, each with different RNA segments. These are non-enveloped and have been described as quasi-spherical (diameter 26 nm) and bacilliform (37 to 55 nm x 18 nm). The genome is composed of 3 single-stranded, positive sensed RNA segments (RNA1 to 3). RNA3 is internally transcribed into sgRNA4.
