Notonecta glauca (predator) (Linnaeus, 1758) - (common backswimmer)
This species of backswimmer is widely distributed in Europe, Asia and North America. It is also found in some other regions. It is regarded as a beneficial predator of mosquito larvae and pupae, but also feeds on various other aquatic insects, small fish or tadpoles.
The adults are around 15 mm long. The scutellum is black and the forewings are whitish to yellowish or whitish orange, often mottled with dark irregular marks or areas.
