Nilaparvata Distant, 1906
The genus contains about 15 species of planthoppers found in various regions. They feed and breed on cereals and grasses. Economically the most important species is the brown planthopper, a rice pest in Asia. The genus can be recognized by a number of morphological characters including the structure of the hind tarsi and that of the male genitalia.
