Neozygites (entomopathogens) Witlaczil 1885
Neozygites is an important genus of beneficial fungi with around 15 species that infect spider mites, aphids and other arthropods. Several species are considered important natural enemies of pest species like Tetranychus urticae, Mononychellus tanajoa or Aphis gossypii.
The fungi are typically difficult to culture in artificial media. On their hosts, they can propagate asexually, producing conidia, or sexually, producing zygospores. The conidia are sperical and the zygospores elongated and dark brown to black. The taxonomic position of this genus is uncertain and it might not belong to the Entomophthorales (Gryganskyi et al., 2013).
