Neohydatothrips variabilis (Beach 1896) - (soybean thrips, variable thrips)

This thrips in found in North America and attacks mainly soybean and cotton. It scraps the leaf surface causing elongate feeding scars. Most damage occurs on young soybean plants which may die after heavy attack. Pupation takes place in the soil.
